What can I drink on Keto Diet?
When you are on a Keto diet, one of the trickiest parts is choosing the right drinks that are low in carbs. So many drinks which we are used to knowing as healthy options are going to kick you out of Ketosis! They are just not Keto drinks. Like fresh juices, sodas, or even coffee if you have it with too much sugar. Marketers use excessively terms like “low-sugar”, “natural”, “light”, etc. on drinks packaging but in fact you can trust only yourself – when you make your own drinks, you know how much glucose you consume per day.
With that said, you can never go wrong with water. If you do not like drinking plain water, then you can try infusing it with herbs or adding a few drops of lemon juice. Sparkling water is also a great alternative that you can either drink plain or with some fruity flavors.
Another good keto drink are energy drinks. There are many low-carb and zero-carb energy drinks on the market. However, you really have to be mindful and read the label and nutrition list.
Another great and natural alternative is to make keto-friendly smoothies. You can make a nice keto smoothie with produce such as berries, spinach, low-carb nut milk, avocados, and the likes.
Unlike many diets which are highly against alcohol, the keto diet allows moderate consumption of specific alcoholic beverages. Dry red and white wine are fine when consumed in moderation. Spirits like vodka, gin, or whiskey also have no carbs at all.
If you need a very quick and easy keto drink idea, then here is a 5-step keto lemonade recipe:
INGREDIENTS
7 cups filtered water
⅔ cup sweetener (we like Lakanto and Swerve)
1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 6 medium lemon’s worth)
INSTRUCTIONS
Bring water and swerve to a boil in a medium-sized sauce pan over medium heat.
Boil and stir until the sweetener is disolved.
Remove from the heat and add fresh lemon juice. Stir until combined.
Let it sit until it reaches room temperature, then place keto lemonade in a glass quart-size jar.
Refridiger and enjoy cold.
