What are the best pies?
Few things will never disappear when it comes to families’ dining tables – and that is pie! When you think of Thanksgiving desserts, pie (more specifically pumpkin pie) is the first one to come to mind. And for Christmas, you will most likely see a Christmas decorated pie on the dining table. But have you ever wondered why pies are a must during these two holidays? It actually goes back several years before. While pumpkin pie is one of the staple pies during Thanksgiving, it wasn’t the first known pie. The first known recorded pie is actually a pecan pie which dates back to the late 1920s! And eating pies during Christmas season was heavily influenced by the Church as there were several days wherein it was required to not eat meat which led to fish-based pies, which were popular during those days.
Now that you are aware of the history of pies, you may now be curious as to which pies are the most well-loved. Listed below are some of the best pies all across the globe:
Cream pie – a pie with a crunchy bottom crust and a rich creamy filling topped with whipped cream.
Meat pie – an Australian national dish made with flaky pastry that is filled with grave and minced meat.
Key lime pie – a green sweet and sour pie dessert consisting of key lime juice, condensed milk, and eggs that are mixed together into a custard.
Pecan Pie – a thin pastry crust pie that is topped with a mixture of eggs, butter, flour, sweetener, and a variety of chopped pecans.
Pumpkin Pie – a traditional American Thanksgiving dessert which is a pumpkin-based custard baked in a pie shell and usually flavored with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, and topped with whipped cream.
Pot pie – A savory pie filled with meat along with vegetables.
Apple pie – a golden brown pie filled with cinnamon-sugar coated apples.
Some more famous pies are:
- Mud pie
- Banana cream pie
- Mince pie
- Blueberry pie
- Custard pie
What is the most popular pie in America?
Pie is definitely known as a classic American dessert enjoyed all year round especially during the holidays. For example, when it comes to Thanksgiving, you can expect to always have a warm pumpkin pie on the dining table. However, people’s favorite everyday pies do vary. Insider conducted a poll last November 16 and 17 2019, deducing the five most popular pies in the US. The five pies included apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, chocolate cream pie, and cherry pie. The top three American choices were apple pie, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie, with apple pie placing first with the most votes which is not a surprise because nothing can beat a warm, homemade American apple pie.
