Can I eat bread on keto?
If you are on a weight loss journey, then going on a Keto diet may be one of your weight loss strategies. To explain it simply, a keto diet means that you will eliminate every form of carbohydrate on your meal plans. In other words, it is a low-carb, high-fat diet. With this, you may think that bread should ultimately be off the list right? But since bread has been a staple food for a very long time, it might be hard to completely cross it off your meals. But you do not need to worry because there is now an abundance of keto-friendly ingredients for bread making. This includes ingredients that have fewer carbs such as almond flour, coconut flour, eggs, psyllium husk, and more. So, yes, you can still fully enjoy and incorporate bread on your daily keto diet plan.
What bread is good for keto diet?
Now that you know that you do not need to eliminate bread on your diet plan, you should also be aware that there are only specific types of bread that fit under the Keto category. Generally, the types of bread that are good for a keto diet are those that are low-carb or “light bread”. In some cases, these types of bread use fiber instead of starch. It is also good to note that the smaller or thinly-sliced a bread is, the fewer carbohydrates and calories they have.
Here are a few examples of bread that is good to eat even on a keto diet:
- Coconut flour bread. Aside from it being tasty, a coconut-based bread is gluten-free and rich in fiber. It also boosts weight loss.
- Ezekiel bread. This bread consists of organic grains and legumes including barley, soybeans, lentils, wheat, millet, and other whole grains. A slice of an Ezekiel bread only contains 15 grams of carbohydrates which is a reasonable amount when you are on a keto diet.
- Almond flour bread. This type of bread is another great substitute if you are aiming for a low-carb bread. It is packed with healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.
