Baked Donut Recipes – 15 Healthy Donut Options

Which is better baked or fried donuts?

There are times when we just want something sweet to fulfill our cravings. And what’s a sweet and filling snack than donuts? However, if you are on a strict diet, you might second guess especially knowing that they are coated with sugar. But, that is in the case if your donut is fried. Fried donuts are usually made by coating it in batter and flour, then deep-frying and coating in sugar after. However, baked donuts will just consist of the dough, and since they will go inside the oven, flour, oil, nor sugar isn’t heavily used in it. When it terms of health benefits, baked donuts are definitely a winner here. But if you want your donuts to be crispy, then a fried donut is for you. And if you want your donuts to be soft on the inside and out, then a baked one is your best choice.

How do you make baked donuts from scratch?

The good thing about baked donuts is that you can make it from scratch in the comfort of your own kitchen! With this, you can monitor the amount of sugar you want to be added in your donuts and adjust the flavor to your likings.

You just need to spare a few minutes of your time and some ingredients.

Ingredients

All-purpose flour

2 1/4 teaspoons of active dried yeast

1 cup of milk

1/3 cup water

1 tbsp Vanilla extract

4 tbsp of butter

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons salt

Vegetable oil

Instructions

To make the dough, you need to mix 3 cups and ¼ of flour, yeast, salt, and sugar on a mixer. Then in a jug, heat together the milk, water, and butter until the butter is melted. Stir in the vanilla after. Add the milk mixture to your mixer and mix for about 2 minutes. Increase the speed to medium for about 6-8 minutes until the dough is shiny and smooth. The batter should be fairly thick.

Rub your mixing bowl with vegetable oil then place the dough and turn to coat lightly. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap for about 1 to 2 hours until the dough has risen. Once risen, place onto a floured work surface and roll out to ½ thick. Get a round cutter and cut your donut circles.

Cover your donuts with a cling film for about 20-30 minutes to let them rise.

Heat your oven to 350F. Bake for 13-15 minutes. Then serve.

You can also whip up your own glaze which really only needs some sugar and a few tablespoons of water. You can also add some fillings such as Nutella and some cream. You can also decorate your donuts with some delicious toppings such as nuts, sprinkles, and more.
