How do you make white bread from scratch?

Ingredients:

  • Active dry yeast
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Milk
  • Butter

Procedures:

  • Place the yeast and sugar in a large bowl and dissolve it in warm water. Stir, and add salt and about 2 cups of flour. Stir in the remaining flour ½ cup at a time.
  • When the dough has pulled together, place it into a surface lightly sprinkled with flour and knead for about 8 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Make sure to oil the dough as well. Cover it with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour. The dough should have doubled in volume.
  • Place the dough in a lightly floured surface and divide into two equal pieces and form into loaves. Place the loaves in a lightly greased loaf pans or add parchment paper. Cover the loaves and let them rise in volume for about 40 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
  • Bake at 375 degrees F for about 30 minutes or until the loaves are golden brown.
