How do you make white bread from scratch?

Bread is definitely one of the most versatile yet simple foods out there. You can basically make anything from a single piece of bread and get creative with it. One of the most common types of bread is white bread which is incredibly light and soft. But nothing beats a bread that is homemade and fresh from the oven. And unlike what you may think, the process is not that difficult!

  • Active dry yeast
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Water
  • Milk
  • Butter

  • Place the yeast and sugar in a large bowl and dissolve it in warm water. Stir, and add salt and about 2 cups of flour. Stir in the remaining flour ½ cup at a time.
  • When the dough has pulled together, place it into a surface lightly sprinkled with flour and knead for about 8 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Make sure to oil the dough as well. Cover it with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour. The dough should have doubled in volume.
  • Place the dough in a lightly floured surface and divide into two equal pieces and form into loaves. Place the loaves in a lightly greased loaf pans or add parchment paper. Cover the loaves and let them rise in volume for about 40 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
  • Bake at 375 degrees F for about 30 minutes or until the loaves are golden brown.

What are the ingredients used in making bread?

Making a classic traditional bread should not be that hard and should not require a lot of fancy ingredients. In fact, you can find these ingredients in your local supermarket. All you need are yeast (to make the dough rise), flour, water, butter, milk, sugar, salt, and eggs.
