Healthy Baked Fish Recipes To Enjoy

How do you bake fish without drying it out?

There are times when you may want to take a break from all the red meat and poultry. This is usually where your seafood craving comes in. And that is a good thing because adding more fish to your diet is beneficial for your health – as long as it is cooked right, of course. That means any fish that is breaded, battered, or deep-fried will do you more harm than good. If you must know, fish is naturally filled with healthy nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, vitamin D, and more. It is claimed that fish can boost your brain health as well as prevent depression.

There are several ways on how you can cook your fish while still maintaining its nutrients. One easy and common way is through baking. However, this can get tricky because it can dry your fish out if you are not careful. But do not worry because it is actually easy to prevent your fish from drying it.

First, you can cook your fish by adding some liquid to the tray or in a sauce. It could be water, lemon, wine, olive oil, and whichever you prefer. You may also want to go light with the sauce (if that is what you are using) since you do not want to drown the fish’s natural flavor. It is also good to know the 10-minute rule in cooking fish. That is you should cook fish about 10 minutes per inch while turning halfway throughout the cooking time. This works best for thicker fish meat. Pieces less than ½ inch thick do not have to be turned over.

You can tell if your fish is done cooking by inserting a fork into the fish and gently twisting it. If it begins to become flakey and the fish juices are milky white, then it is done.

What temperature should fish be cooked in the oven?

Depending on the size and thickness of the fish you are cooking, the temperature of your oven will also differ. For fish fillets, it is best to heat your oven to 375°F and then bake uncovered for about 15 to 20 minutes. For codfish, the perfect temperature would be 400°F. And if it is a whole fish, it is wise to roast it on high heat. The recommended temperature would be 450°F and cooking time is about 18 to 20 minutes. Again, just like the temperature, the cooking time will also vary depending on the type and size of your fish so it is always best to monitor your fish and check it for about every 10 minutes or so.
