How to cook soup in a slow cooker?
Did you know that there are easier ways to cook your food? One of them is by using a slow cooker. To those of you who are not familiar with it, a slow cooker uses a low-temperature cooking method to help tenderize less-expensive cuts of meats which will then bring out the flavor in your meals. Furthermore, a wide variety of foods can be cooked in a slow cooker which includes one-pot meals, soups, stews, and casseroles! And if you are looking for a cooking method that does not require a lot of pre-preparation, then a slow cooker will be your new best friend.
Now that you know that soups can be cooked in a slow cooker, it is still good to know that the process varies from when you are preparing a soup on the stove. First, you should take note to cut your ingredients into even pieces – both meat and vegetable – so that your ingredients will be cooked at the same rate and reach the same consistency.
Since the heating element of the slow cooker is located at the bottom of the machine, the ingredients that require the longest cooking time should always be placed on the bottom of the slow cooker, where they can get more direct access to the heat. Layering the ingredients like this will help promote even cooking.
Traditional soup recipes prepared on the stove will usually require much more liquid, but for slow cooker soups, you should only add just enough liquid to barely cover the ingredients. Liquid won’t evaporate in a slow cooker like it does in a stockpot, so if you add too much now, the finished soup might be too watery.
Can I cook soup in slow cooker overnight?
Most modern slow cookers are perfectly safe to be left on for a long period of time whether it be cooking or just keeping your food warm. However, there is very little need to leave your slow cooker on for more than 12 hours or so at a time. Though some can be left on for up to 24 hours, leaving it on to cook for too long can ruin both the flavor and texture of your dish.
